This Monday, we had the incredible opportunity to attend the award ceremony organized by the Partnerství pro městskou mobilitu, celebrating groundbreaking projects in architecture and urban planning across the Czech Republic. The event showcased inspiring innovations that harmoniously blend creativity, sustainability, and user-centric design.
A highlight of the ceremony was witnessing the announcement of the “Winner of the Víta Brandy Award 2024.” Named after renowned architect Vít Branda (1963–2009), the award embodies the principles he championed: simplicity, meaningfulness, functional design, and clever innovation. Branda’s exceptional work, like the footbridge on the Maxips Fík embankment in Kadaň, nominated among Europe’s best buildings, is a lasting symbol of creative vision and ingenuity.
This prestigious award recognizes not only artistic ingenuity but also the practical implementation of ideas that are sustainable, safe, and cost-effective while maintaining quality. From addressing technical challenges to introducing smart solutions that enhance accessibility and reduce operational costs. The winning award went to the completed project Štvanick bridge in Prague or better known as Štvanická lávka. The award was well received by one of the authors of the project Petr Tej.
The participants were also gifted the thought-provoking book Curbing Traffic by Melissa Bruntlett and Chris Bruntlett which delves into the transformation of urban spaces to prioritise people over cars. We’re excited to dive into this insightful read in the coming days and reflect on its relevance to the projects we saw.
